Which Frequent Flyer Miles Program Is Right For You?

Almost all airline companies allow their customers to access their invaluable frequent flyer programs. As an intelligent consumer, you will do your homework at the start and determine which programs will actually measure up to your expectations, wants, and needs. You definitely want to choose the right program, which will provide you the most benefits, from the very beginning so that you dont lose out on rewards. There are many different programs offered by many different airlines, so be smart, and do your research. Certain programs may provide more interesting benefits for you, and you are the only person that can truly determine whether a program will work for you.

What Should You Look For?

There are many different aspects of frequent flyer programs that you will want to explore before making a decision on one. Here we have three key things that you need to familiarize yourself with concerning every frequent flyer program you are interested in.

o Ticket Cost. Any airline that offers a frequent flyer program should have comparable rates to other airlines, especially if they are offering a frequent flyer program. If their company only offers tickets at substantially higher prices then you really do not save money in the long run.

o Airline Location. Some programs may seem extremely attractive to you, but if they do not offer flights out the closest airport to you then you are wasting time and money. Although, this is a good secondary program to be a part of if this airline can fly you to other places that you would like to travel to more often.

o Benefits & Features. Do your research; take the time to investigate all of the available bonuses and features offered to you through any program that you are interested in. If you fly numerous times in a year what does that customer status earn you? Does the program offer any other types of usages for you, such as a credit card or earning points for hotels and car rentals? What is the limit of miles you can attain, do they ever expire, and are there any stipulations on locations?

To really decide on the best frequent flyer program to go into business with, it will take some time. Although, if your primary goal is to get the most frequent flyer miles for your dollars, it pays to do your research and check out all of the details associated with the program. By taking this time you will be more and more benefited as the rewards continue to pile up.

Perimenopause Symptoms The Transition

Until you reached this stage in your life, theres a high probability that youd never even heard of perimenopause. As a matter of fact, you were probably a bit surprised that perimenopause (the transitional period before menopause) could begin so early in life, and last for ten years sometimes even longer.

Symptoms of perimenopause are described almost exactly as those associated with menopause, and may include:

Weight gain (especially around the mid-section)
Mood changes
Night sweats
Hot flashes
Vaginal dryness
Changes in sexual desire (lowered libido)
Sleep disturbances
Frequent urination
Extreme sweating
Difficulty concentrating
Other symptoms similar to those you may experience with premenstrual syndrome

If youre experiencing any of these symptoms, its a good idea to talk with your health care provider to rule out any other medical conditions. Once youre sure that perimenopause is indeed the culprit behind the symptoms youre now noticing, its time to step it up and take the steps necessary to reduce and in many cases eliminate the discomforts that can be associated with perimenopause.

Your physician will likely encourage you to make some lifestyle changes that have been proven to effectively benefit many women during perimenopause. These include:

Altering your diet to include soy and flax

Exercising regularly, incorporating weight training into your routine at least three days per week

Taking supplements of vitamin E

Avoiding triggers that can cause hot flashes, such as caffeine; also, its suggested that you avoid being in extremely warm temperatures or rooms

Herbal treatments, such as ginkgo biloba, black cohash or Evening Primrose Oil

Depending on your age, health and medical history and the severity of your symptoms, your doctor may also use various other treatments to remedy your perimenopausal symptoms, such as:

A low dose of birth control to stabilize your hormone levels

Antidepressants to level out your mood swings

Progesterone to alleviate symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome

This transitional period can be a bit frightening for many women, but its important to remind yourself that you can indeed breeze through perimenopause and menopause if you simply take care of yourself. You can be as healthy, energetic, happy and beautiful as youve always been. As an added bonus, your age has brought you to a maturity level you didnt have twenty years ago, giving you confidence to be certain that you can be and do everything you set your mind to. You will no doubt enjoy and savor your life if you remain positive and determined.

Susan Megge is the founder of http://www.40isbeautiful.com, a website designed to assist mature women as they approach and experience menopause. India 2007 - Days 4 to 6 - Bijaypur and Jaipur

The drive from Udaipur to Bijaypur was nothing if not interesting. En route, we visited Chittaugarh Fort, a huge fortification with a whole town within it. Built on a one hundred and fifty metre high plateau in the Aravalli Hills, it is in ruins but well-restored. The entrance is on the north west side and the road winds up through seven individually named gates, each with its own guardhouse. The first gate is known as Padal Pol (lowest gate) followed by Bhairav Pol (Bhairav being an attendant of the Goddess Durga), Hanuman Pol (this gate has a temple and a shrine dedicated to the Monkey God Hanuman), Ganesh Pol (for the Elephant God), Jorla Pol, Lakshman Pol and finally Ram Pol (Gate of the God Ram) which was built in AD 1459. The gateway located on the eastern side of the fort is known as Suraj Pol (Sun Gate).

The exploits of the Rajputs place in Indian folklore compares with that of the medieval knights of Europe or the Samurai of Japan, to the extent that individual Rajput heroes have the place where they fell in defence of the fort, marked with stones.

The palace of Kumbha and Padmini's Palace are but two of the beautifully carved edifices, which have been subject to restoration.

Onwards from the fort and having travelled some distance on a very good road, our driver realised that he had missed our turning and wasted about an hour. Around we turned, eventually found the right turning then spent a further hour winding our way further and further uphill, until, if it weren't for the frequent signposts to our hotel, we would have assumed that we had gone wrong again.

On arrival in Bijaypur, the hotel certainly didn't live up to its photos on the internet, being more than somewhat dilapidated with an all-male staff who were trained in a very different school to that of the other hotels we stayed in! However, we managed to acquire beer, a sandwich (awful) and towels for the pool so whiled away the afternoon happily enough.

With some trepidation, we ventured back to the courtyard of our arrival to find a transformation. The odd tables covered with pieces of hardboard now sported bright cloths, the place buzzed with people (a convention had arrived) and the stage was set for entertainment. The staff seemed rather more awake and soon we were seated with beer and poppadoms to watch the dancing of successive ladies in bright red, green and gold saris.

Dinner, too, was a surprise, being a very tasty, mainly vegetarian buffet consisting of boiled rice, an aubergine curry, an egg curry, mixed vegetables, dal and a mutton dish, which, although not vegetarians, we didn't try. There was also nan bread on offer, which was very welcome.

Next morning, the staff had gone back to sleep, each of three separate waiters asking what we wanted for breakfast and none of them getting it right - oh well, you can't win them all.

After breakfast, we set of for Jaipur, taking an interesting short-cut to the freeway past grazing camels and wonderful orange-flowered flame trees, through tiny villages, over rough ground without tarmac, better suited to a four-wheel-drive vehicle!

Some six hours later, the welcome respite of our hotel in Jaipur and some lunch - Indian-style wraps containing spicy chicken.

Dinner was a quite spicy mutton curry for my husband and Malaysian noodles for me, incorporating chicken and prawns and a fearsome amount of chilli!

Next day involved the obligatory visits to the Jantar Mantar observatory, the Chandra Mahal (City Palace) and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), an interesting structure, tall and very narrow, ornately carved from pink sandstone and built solely so that the royal ladies could watch the world go by without being seen. The City Palace, too, is well worth a visit, with seven stories and seven courtyards, partly still occupied by the present-day Maharajah. There is a large museum which gives some insight into the past days of the maharajahs, including costumes, weapons, pottery, musical instruments and the two fantastic silver jars used by Nadho Singh II to carry Ganges water for bathing on his visit to England in 1901.

All that sightseeing naturally brought on hunger and thirst, so spring rolls and spicy prawns by the pool were the order of the day but so good and plentiful were they that I could only manage a tarka dal and nan bread for dinner while my husband had the interestingly-named Southern Railway Lamb curry. There was no real clue as to the contents, but we surmised the use of the normal spices and flavourings which resulted in quite a red-coloured and extremely tasty dish.

Our next few days will be spent in Ranthambhore National Park, so I hope you'll be with us then to hear our experiences, both culinary and wildlife.

The First Date Conversation

The most dreaded thing during first dates, aside from choosing what top would go best with which pants, is what to say on your first real eye-to-eye conversation. You cant really help it when you turn all giddy on first dates its a natural thing.

Theres only one rule to first date conversations dont make a fool of yourself. Stop being overly anxious and suppress all signs of nervousness appear relaxed, confident and at ease. Get the thought of rejection out of your head and avoid negative speculations. Think good thoughts, this can also help you exude a positive aura that always adds charm to your personality.

Silence can be your worst enemy on first dates, it makes me cringe just thinking about it. It can make one jump into the brink of nervousness and say things that you wish you hadnt said. If you think the conversation will lead to some dead air, you can make little distractions like slowly sipping your drink. This would give you those precious split seconds to think of something creative to say to keep the conversation flowing smoothly.

There are a number of great subjects that can jumpstart a conversation. Make a quick observation of the person you are dating if shes the intellectual type, current events can be a good topic to start with. Talk about your present jobs and how happy or discontented you are with your career. Along that line you can also talk about your past schools and funny experiences you might want to share. Ask your date about her hobbies and what interests her. Always add some comments or a follow-up question to keep the conversation moving forward.

Those popular whats-your-favorite? questions shouldnt be missed. You can really get to know a persons personal taste with this type of question. Since everyone generally loves traveling, you can also talk about your past leisure trips and some of the vacation spots you fancy of course, your date would share his or her own thoughts of a dream holiday as well, and who knows, you might even end up having a vacation together.

One can tell a good date from a bad date on the basis of how the conversation on your first date went. Be prepared and have a mental list of the possible things you can talk about. The key to a successful first date is to be yourself and as long as you can do that, everything else will follow.

Membership Marketing its More than Magazines

Membership marketing is not new. The American Medical Association was founded in 1847, while the Marine Corps Association was formed in 1913, to cite a few examples. But membership marketing seems to be gaining traction in todays marketplace.

The worlds largest circulation magazine

Yes, its AARP, The Magazine, which arrives at 24 million households each month. According to Lin MacMaster, Director of Membership Development for AARP, the magazine is a tangible benefit, but it plays a supporting role in providing information to help individuals age with grace and dignity and lead purposeful lives. MacMaster believes people are joining for the full array of benefits.

She states that the main benefits of membership include being part of a force of over 36 million Americans who are attempting to remain healthy and live life the way they want to live it, navigating the waters as life changes. Founded in 1958, AARP is a huge advocacy organization on both the federal and state levels, says MacMaster.

The organization has three divisions a foundation, a non-profit and AARP Services, a for-profit division where AARP partners with insurance companies and other providers, delivering unique benefits to members. Membership costs $12.50 annually; two and three year memberships are also available. According to MacMaster, the AARP card has a high perceived value and is frequently used to obtain discounts.

AARP The Magazine is not available by subscription, but does have some distribution in doctors offices. Associate members (those under 50) can get the magazine as well. While the magazine offers feature articles, news is covered in the AARP Bulletin, a full-color newspaper. Both accept advertising. AARP also offers members free e-newsletters on an array of topics, including caregiving, health, wellness and financial well-being.

Segmenting the Market

Currently, AARP is moving away from a mass approach to acquisition to a segmented approach. They are mailing their control packages less a standard package and a snap pack - and testing packages to specific groups. Rather than what MacMaster refers to as the pu pu platter approach (something for everyone) AARP has been testing topics that resonate with the 50-59 year-old segment including caregiving, financial security and health and wellness.

They are also tweaking language and offers, testing formats and messaging, and experimenting with information offers and premiums and freemiums tied to their value proposition (Tips for financial well-being, Tips for Turning 50, pedometers). Over the last two years AARP has also done a lot of channel testing utilizing the web, AdvoSystems, FSIs, radio and TV that is showing promise.

Getting Promotional

As for renewals, AARP uses a 7-effort series. They are testing shorter and longer versions as well as different messages to different audiences (first time renewal versus longstanding member) and trying more promotionally based offers tied to longer terms. On their website, I noticed a Win-Win Membership Sweepstakes for a 16-day expedition and cruise to Antarctica. Renewals are also handled via their customer care calls for those who call in. AARP is looking to the web and all member touch points for additional renewal opportunities.

MCA - Membership with a Mission since 1913

The Marine Corps Association is the professional organization for all Marinesactive duty, Reserve, retired, and Marine veterans. Annual membership costs $21 for enlisted and $32 for officers, and will be going up in April. MCA publishes not one but two monthly magazines Leatherneck Magazine of the Marines and Marine Corps Gazette. Both accept advertising. Bill Hughs, Director of Marketing, indicates Leatherneck offers more general interest/news while the Gazette is a professional journal, covering issues that face Marines every day. Members get a choice of magazines, and some take both. The magazines are available to non-members with 1775 current non-member subscribers.

MCA puts out 4,400 issues as single copies at base exchanges, MCA bookstores and kiosk stands inside some commissaries. The magazines are also available at the Quantico Amtrak station and other newsstands near bases. MCA currently does catalog marketing and finds 67% of their retail sales are from members, who enjoy a 10% discount on catalog products.

An Association in Flux

Almost 90,000 members strong, the association is currently reorganizing, evaluating whether the magazines are their main raison detre. Hughs states that members perceive the magazines are the main benefit. E-newsletters are also sent out to members. The membership card does not have a high perceived value, he says, as the association has not adequately promoted the other benefits which include retail discounts and travel, to name a few.

Hughs stated that MCA is taking another look at lists, affinity partnerships, positioning, segmentation and messaging. They will do research, focus groups and talk to members. Currently, 62% of their membership is over 40, and they need to do a better job of reaching younger Marines (Generation X). Hughs believes this is because theyve been using directive language in their messaging, and Gen X is not receptive to this approach. Hughs plans to change the creative, relaunch the magazine and review the renewal and expire programs to increase their membership base.

The Good Sam a For-Profit Association for RVers

According to Sue Bray, The Good Sam Club offers a valuable package of benefits that promote the RV lifestyle. A membership survey reveals the campground discount is the top benefit, while the magazine, Highways, is next and their web-based trip routing service is third. Other benefits include Good Sam events and member-to-member online forums. Bray is unsure if the membership card has a high perceived value. Membership costs $25/year for the basic dues.

Highways is a monthly magazine which accepts outside advertising. The club also markets branded Good Sam products, such as the Good Sam Continued Service Plan, which protects members against paying huge repair bills should something go awry in their rig.

Reaching Boomers through Ads, Direct Mail, Point of Sale

Good Sam is in the mail about once a month, always testing new formats. Direct mail is their main source, but they also test E-mail marketing and send an E-newsletter to members. Their DM control is a #10 envelope 4-5 page letter, response device and membership decal. Bray says that people like the decal. They have also succeeded with a member get a member campaign. Good Sam Club utilizes a 9-effort renewal series and maintains the same offer throughout the series.

The association also sells memberships at campgrounds, RV shows and camping stores, as well as through Life and MotorHome magazines. As a result of their outreach efforts, the association has been growing 1-2% per year and keeping pace with the market.

Baby boomers getting into the RV lifestyle have helped fuel this growth, said Bray. While Good Sam is a mature organization thats been around for 40 years, they are always trying to improve and provide an enhanced benefit package to members.

The Worlds Largest Affinity Lifestyle Membership Company

Such is the claim of the North American Membership Group (NAMG) established in 1978. NAMG is a for-profit company that combines membership, publishing and merchandise marketing. The North American Hunting Club was first, followed by the North American Fishing Club, the Handyman Club, the National Home Gardening Club, the PGA Tour Partners Club, the Cooking Club of America, the National Health & Wellness Club, the Creative Home Arts Club, The History Channel Club and the National Street Machine Club. NAMG has 10 clubs in all, with 10 magazines, reaching more than 4.7 million active enthusiasts and 21.8 million readers.

The company maintains that NAMGs magazines achieve something that newsstand publications cannot a deeper reader relationship with unmatched interaction between writers, editors, and member readers.

Member benefits include
Full-color magazine delivered 6 to 8 times a year
Member-only interactive web sites with information archives, bulletin boards, event calendar, weekly polls, trivia contests
Opportunities to test/keep products related to the clubs lifestyle
Giveaways of products, services and travel
Member-to-member forums and informational support
Special information resource directories
Exclusive product purchasing opportunities
Member-only events, competitions and contests
Discount opportunities on selected products and services

Cooking Club of America A Closer Look

In addition to Cooking Pleasures magazine, members enjoy free product testing privileges, free recipe cards, cooking school discounts, menu ideas, a recipe reprint service, and more.

While bind-ins invite members to join, renew or give the gift of membership at $2.00 a month ($24 annually) with a hard offer, an online offer solicits members for a Free No-Risk Trial Membership for 30 days.

Those who sign up for the free trial receive a Thank You package in a #10 window envelope with a brochure extolling the benefits of membership, a letter indicating they have already received the first issue of Cooking Pleasures, and a perf-off Membership Dues Invoice for $12.00 for 12 months.

A 4-color buckslip invites prospective members to receive a free multipurpose grater (a $20.00 value) by returning the buckslip with their payment. Prospects are enticed with the possibility of winning free kitchen utensils, gourmet food, and more. The website indicates that 84% of each years dues is for one year of Cooking Pleasures.

Smart Marketing

Remember when a credit card was merely a plastic card issued by a bank authorizing payment for purchases? Now, many are portals to a world of benefits ranging from airline miles to merchandise points. So, too, membership marketers provide added value by offering magazines PLUS an array of services (and sometimes an entire community) that tie members more closely to their brand and promote loyalty. Now thats smart marketing!

Womens Boat Shoes Guide

If you are thinking hey I dont have a boat, keep in mind that these shoes are not just for wearing on a deck anymore. It is true that womans boat shoes are also known as deck shoes, but today you will see them just as much on the streets in the city and on campus as you will at your local marina.

Originally, womens boat shoes were manufactured to be worn while out boating or sailing. The original Indian moccasins because of their low profile, the water-repellent hide and the lacings on the sides for fit probably inspired them. Todays womens boat shoes and their construction with rubber soles and water repellent or, at the least, less water absorbent leather uppers make them perfect for a day on the water.

Todays manufacturers also offer a variety of colors and styles. This is making it a shoe that falls between an informal dress shoe and the ultimate casual shoe. So today, even with the obvious practicality of womens boat shoes, if you do go sailing or boating, it doesnt mean they are only used on the water. They have become a major part of European womens wardrobes and a major player in the preppy style of North America. Womens boat shoes are now being purchased by anyone who is dressing casual. They are stylish in any situation that does not require formal attire. A word of advice is that they are considered just a 3 season shoe. They are not normally worn in the winter. You can wear womens boat shoes with or without socks, which make these womans boat shoes very versatile. Some manufacturers will include a sock pad to add cushioning for those who do prefer the traditional no sock look.

A high quality womens boat shoe is not going to be inexpensive and should last for several years with proper maintenance. The prices for a quality shoe will range from $39 dollars to as much as $170 dollars.

Speaking of maintenance, a womens boat shoe is designed to handle adverse conditions on the water. You may think that they do not need to be kept up but this is far from the truth. In between wearings, quality oil should be applied to the leather uppers occasionally. This helps keep the leather soft, flexible and water-resistant. The insoles should be sprayed with an anti fungal / bacteria spray and allowed to air dry. If the rubber soles should become worn you need to replace or repair them.

Today, even women who have never been on a boat or, for that matter, near the water are being attracted to the casual style offered by the womens boat shoe. Fashion experts state that these sporty shoes can be worn with any of todays casual attire. The only time they advise wearing a loafer instead would be in a more business type casual setting. This rule is not iron clad as it will depend somewhat on your ensemble of choice. Aided by more contemporary styling and multiple colors, todays woman is able to stand out more with women's boat shoes then was possible with the plain original style and color.

Have Hotel Rooms Become a Commodity?

Nowadays, more travel is sold over the Internet than any other consumer product. In the United States Internet-booked rooms is the fastest-growing segment of hotel reservations in part because the Internet is a perfect medium for selling travel as it brings a vast network of suppliers and a widely dispersed customer pool together into a centralized market place.

In fact, the travel marketplace is a global arena where millions of buyers (travel agents and the public) search for travel services and sellers (hotels, airlines, car rental companies, etc.) work together to exchange travel services on the world's global distribution systems and the Internet distribution systems.

However, any mention of the Internet as a distribution channel for travel needs to start with an understanding of the existing electronic distribution infrastructure, the Global Distribution System (GDS). The airline industry created the first GDS in the 1960s as a way to keep track of flight schedules, availability, and prices.

The GDSs were actually among the first e-commerce companies in the world facilitating B2B electronic commerce as early as the mid 1970s, when SABRE (owned by American Airline) and Apollo (United) began installing their propriety internal reservations systems in travel agencies.

The legacy of these GDSs, namely Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan, today provide the backbone to the Internet travel distribution system and additionally there are thousands of private label Web sites like Expedia and Orbitz, as well as hundreds of tour operators, corporate booking portals, and regional convention coordinators.

Yet although technology has given hoteliers so many ways to sell a room, it has become nearly impossible for a smaller hotel operator to understand, let alone intelligently manage the available channels for room sales. In fact if you are the average small hotel, many of these channels have an allotment of your rooms, and it is likely most are showing out of date rates and incorrect availability.

Communicating with all of these channels in order to keep them current on your inventory and rates, requires in some cases, daily manual intervention with multiple faxes and phone calls. More importantly, verifying the accuracy of each channel's current allotment and rate by the property is critical but rarely automated. Most times hotel operators do not know where or how their rooms are being sold or at what rate until the booking confirmation arrives.

The tangle of reservation channels is not likely to be simplified soon. But with regard to the easy accessibility of hotel reservations on the Internet directly booked from hotel websites with their own integrated reservations systems, the system is working.

Unfortunately even now, the overwhelming majority of small to medium sized hoteliers far from realizing and exploiting the Web's true potential are still accepting bookings by telephone, form and fax from their websites or selling their inventory at reduced rates or high commissions via Web-proficient online intermediaries.

As such, hoteliers, who want to broaden their rooms distribution intelligently, improve margins and maintain their brand identity in the face of on-line distributors that would turn hotel rooms into a lowest-price commodity should seriously consider integrating a real time reservations system into their own website for the ultimate benefit of their own hotel and visitors.

After all, commodities tend to look and taste the same. Do visitors want a box they will rent if the price is right or a room experience they will wish to revisit again and again?

Basic Home Loan Terms Explained

The wonderful world of home buying can sometimes overwhelm the first time home buyer. They are inundated with information riddled with terms of art. ARMS, points, interest rates, good faith estimates, pay-downs, lock-in dates, so on and so forth. Though some or all of these terms may seem somewhat foreign to you, do not get overwhelmed, there are simple explanations for each and every one of them.

Let us start with the different types of loans there are. Typically all home loans fall into two basic categories: mortgages and home equity loans. Mortgages are simply a loan against property that is secured with a "mortgage". This "mortgage" is basically a lien against the property until such time that loan is satisfied. So a mortgage is a loan against property that is secured with a lien against it.

A home equity loan is a loan that is also secured with a lien against the property. The home equity loan lien is secondary to the first mortgage on the home. This type of loan is based on the amount of equity in the house. Equity is the difference in dollars between the value of the home and the amount owed on it. Equity can be a positive number (the house is worth more than what is owed) or can be a negative number (negative equity) which means that there is more owed on the house than the house is worth.

A lien is simply a legal term that indicates that someone other than the homeowner has a legal right and interest in the property. So, if the property is ever sold, all liens need to be satisfied - any money owed to anyone with a lien must be paid, otherwise the new owner may become obligated to pay the amount owed. A lien is against property, not a person. Typically in all real estate transactions there will be a title search that will reveal any liens against the property. This title search is basically an examination over anyone and anything that may have some legal interest, obligation or right to the property.

If there are multiple home loans on a property the order they are paid in is the oldest to the newest. This is only a factor if the property is being sold for below what is owed. This is either through a "short sale" where the house is being sold by the homeowner for below the amount that is owed in the house. They will need approval from all lien holders in order to do this. This is also an issue if a house falls into foreclosure.

Within these two types of loans you will want to know the difference between a fixed-rate mortgage and a variable rate mortgage. A variable or adjustable rate mortgage is an ARM. Fixed-rate mortgages have the same interest rate from the first day of the loan to the last day of the loan unless it is refinanced. A fixed rate or variable rate loan will generally start off for a period of time at a specified rate and then after that period ends, if the loan has not been paid off or refinanced then the rate becomes adjustable based on specific conditions set forth in advance - typically tied to the federal interest rate. An ARM loan will have typically a 3 or 5 year period during which the rate is lower than the going rate. This is used to entice would-be borrowers or help borrowers have lower payments for the initial period.

"Points" are often discussed in connection with loan packages and interest rates. You can "pay down" an interest rate by paying points for example. What this means is you can pay for a lower interest rate if you pay a specified number of points. Points are simply one percent of the loan amount. So a $100,000 loan equates to $1000 for every point.

Another term you will often here is PMI, private mortgage insurance. PMI is insurance for your lender when the amount you borrow is more than 80% of the value of the property. In these cases the borrower needs to pay for this insurance policy. The calculation for your monthly PMI payment is 0.5% of your loan amount divided by twelve.

Tied to the calculation of PMI, as well as many other factors of the loan is an appraisal. An appraisal is a determination by a real estate professional of what the value of the property is. They will evaluate the property and similar properties in the area. They will consider market trends, recent sales and other factors to give an estimate on what the property is worth and would sell for.

Another potential add-on to your monthly payments is escrow payments. Escrow is money that is being held typically to pay taxes. Your lender will collect 1/12 of your yearly taxes every month in order to be assured that your taxes are paid. Your lender then makes your required tax payments. Typically your lender will have a cushion in the escrow account of 2 - 3 months in case you fall behind in your payments.

Though there are many more terms you may encounter these are the most often used, misunderstood terms. During the home loan process, however, you should never feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask what a term means. The more you know the better off you will be.

The Science Behind Male Menopause

Once a man is in his mid-forties, he will eventually start to be concerned on the next stage of life, which is death. As a result, his apprehension of being next among those he knew who have passed away will eventually lead to several symptoms of which is often times referred to as mid-life crisis. This particular phase in a man's life is called male menopause or medically known as andropause.

Loss of energy and fluctuation of mans virility level are just some of the most notable indicator of andropause. This is because of the alteration of the production of male sex hormones. Generally, this problem occurs to a man during the age of 45 up to 55.

Actually, andropause are two distinct stages that occur among males and are most of the time considered as one. As a matter of fact, mid-life crisis and andropause are associated with each other because mid-life crisis occurs to men between the ages of 35-45 years, which is before the andropause phase.

On the other hand, andropause may occur early depending on the person will respond to his mid-life crisis; and may also be delayed if that particular person maintains a healthy and active lifestyle.

Another symptom of andropause is the irregular loss of vitality. Meaning that particular person may be more irritable, significant loss of sex drives and the most notable is depression. Though most people consider these occurrences as normally caused by aging. In the field of medicine, andropause had become a disorder rather than a normal phase in a mans life. That is why medical science is constantly finding ways to solve this problem.

The predicament that usually occurs in a mans life called andropause is not inherited nor is it natural to all men. That is because, unlike menopause a predicament that occurs on women on the same of the same age andropause can be avoided and treated.

Stress is also one of the major factors that trigger andropause. Psychological stress and physical stress can lead to too much alcohol intake in the body and cigarette consumption. They can greatly aggravate the symptoms of andropause.

Usually, the result of malnutrition or nutritional deficiency of the mans body can lead to andropause. Symptoms such as nervousness, memory loss and low sex drive could be attributed to normal aging or shortage of chromium.

However, not all men can experience the effects of andropause. Such crisis is considered by some as an insult to a male body. That is why, having a healthy lifestyle is the main weapon in order to avoid or minimize the effects of male menopause.

Diesel Engine Pros and Cons

The diesel engine is fast becoming on of the more economical choices for individuals. With the rising costs of fuels, it is seen that diesel is still one of the more affordable options. It in the best has generated a reputation for being very much a major source of pollution but in recent times has been cleaned up to a great extent.

The biggest advantage of the diesel engine is seen in the fact that the fuel is much more economical. The diesel engine gives a lot more than the gasoline engine for much reduced costs. There is an approximate advantage of using diesel of as much as 30% at times. There is less fuel consumed for the same task and you therefore do not have to refill your tank as often.

The reason many persons do not opt for the diesel engine is in fact the initial start up costs of installing such an engine. The extra costs are quite high for the engine and its installation. If you however look into the savings overall the diesel engine will in fact be the more economical choice.

It is seen too that the vehicle that is installed with a diesel engine will retain more value than the gasoline engine. This is due to there being a demand for vehicles that are fuel efficient on the market as the cost of fuel continues to rise. The diesel engine vehicles also tend to stay on the road longer. If properly maintained these will outlast the typical gasoline engine.

It can also be seen that the diesel engine will give a different drive from a gasoline engine. The vehicle running on a diesel engine will have more of a zip too it. The vehicles will also have more power for tasks such as towing as the diesel engine can handle more load.

There is also another downfall associated with the diesel engine. This is the fact that it is much noisier when compared to the gasoline engine. This noise level is however no where as loud as the past and is in fact quite bearable to users. In fact most of the typical drivers on the road will not be able to tell the difference between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine.

Emissions continue to be a cause for concern for the environmentally conscious. It is true that the diesel engine has come a long way from times gone by in terms of emissions but it is still dirtier than the gasoline engine. There is more visible pollution from the diesel engine and this is due to the fact that the diesel engine will throw out more particulates from the exhaust tailpipe as well as more nitrogen oxides. There is however less carbon dioxide pollution. This is a tradeoff but it is the dilemma that many persons face when choosing between the gasoline and the diesel engines.

One of the other concerns when dealing with the diesel engine is the fuel availability. The diesel fuel is commonly found at truck stops on highways bit is not as common in neighborhood service stations. It is vital that consideration be made of where you will source fuel for a diesel engine. It is also seen that there are not that many options when purchasing a diesel engine car so the choices are limited.

Travel To Down Under

I had the best vacation ever 4 years ago when i visit Australia. My recommendation is to visit this amazing country.I stayed most of my time in Perth, a cosy small city at the western Australia. Two of PerthS favorite beaches are City and Cottesloe - about eight and 12 kilometers away.

Sydney and Melbourne are great cities to, excellent hotels and accomodation.Sunny, sexy, sophisticated Sydney. Sydney basks as the shining star of the southern hemisphere.

Melbourne, the capital of Victoria and a cultural hub, is known for the good things in life, in Melbourne you will find luxury hotels at its best.People here are laid back and very friendly.Great wines and international cuisine.Kangaroo and other exotic animals. So many things to explorer.

Take a road trip through the dessert.Take your next vacation to down-under,its a life time journey. The weather is so different. Spending Christmas at the beach or skiing in August may seem strange but Australia's seasons are the opposite of the northern hemisphere, summer officially starts in December and winter in June. But even in winter you'll enjoy blue skies and warm, bright days.

I had some very nice times in Australia,i visit all the cities mention above and made good friends with some people down under.Australia have great wines and a lot of wineries all over the Western Australia and rest of the country. Shiraz Wines, one of my favorite.

The flights can be enjoyable if you are able to relax and sleep through the most of the time. I have tried many different flights and airline companies and they are all great.Flyingtime is not a problem anymore.

I really recommend you to take a vacation to down under.I made a lot of good friends in Australia so i plan my next vacation to down under. If you enjoy laid back life and good food and wine in a cosy atmosphere with friendly people, its the correct place for you. You have everything, great wild nature and pulsing big cities, animals i never seen before except on TV.

Great aboriginal art.I went to Sydney to see the opera house, amazing, yes that the word for it, and the bridge, yes its something. When you travel to Australia you HAVE to taste some of their famous wines, I'm a wine drinker and there i had some of my best wine experiences. You will find international cuisine in all the big cities. What amazed me most was all the old buildings and so much alike Europe in their building style.

It all started up with prisoners and i must say they did a good job. I envy you who plan your next vacation to Australia and are able to experience this amazing continent before me, I'm planning my trip back in 2007. Have a safe and enjoyable vacation.

Ten Reasons Why People Work From Home

In no particular order:

1) They do not want to have to drive and make a commute to their place of employment. Perhaps their old job required driving on a dangerous highway and they valued their life enough to not take that chance anymore. Gas is really expensive and that would definitely contribute to this reason.

2) They want to spend as much time with their family as possible. I was lucky enough to have a stay at home mother, but there are too many kids these days that are not as lucky as I was. Or perhaps they just want to be with the people they care for the most without having a job to constrict and limit their time spent together.

3) They hate their bosses/managers/etc. I remember being treated like garbage at my first job. I was expendable. The fact that I was young, nervous and naive meant nothing to my superiors. I was forced to work hours I did not enjoy while they had all the choices they wanted. Sound familiar?

4) They're lazy. They dream of living a life of leisure, or they just want to make a living while doing a minimal amount of work.

5) They want to explore other areas of life they would never have time for with a job, or they have a passion that they never have time for. Sports, fishing, gardening, computers, video games, martial arts, RC gliders...the list is endless.

6) They enjoy not having to wear some fancy (or ugly) uniform while they work. They're free to work in their underwear if they please, or they don't have to wear anything period while they work *insert laugh track here*.

7) They never have to feel like somebody is watching them while they work. They can screw around, listen to music, look up non-work related sites on the internet, or anything else that would be frowned upon in the work place.

8) They can eat whatever they want, whenever they want. No more being limited to breaks, no more cafeteria food (didn't we all get enough of that back in school?).

9) No more obnoxious, weird co-workers.

10) You work for yourself at home. You're not making some CEO or whoever richer while being underpaid.

Forty Days of Fear and Failure

Copyright 2006 Rob Marshall

In his book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill says, "One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat." He goes on to tell the story of R. U. Darby who stopped three feet short of finding gold.

Darby, like many others, was caught up in "gold fever." He went out west in search of gold and after digging in a mine with a pick and shovel, he found it. He quietly covered up the mine and went back east to raise money to buy the equipment he needed to bring the ore to the surface.

His hopes were high as he began dreaming of paying off his debts and making a killing selling gold. But then something happened, the vein of gold disappeared. He continued drilling, but the gold was gone. He finally quit and sold the equipment to a junk dealer for a few hundred dollars and went back home.

The junk dealer decided to hire a mining engineer to take a look at the mine. After doing some calculations the engineer told him that whoever had done the drilling didn't understand fault lines. He also told him that the vein was just three feet from where Darby had stopped. The junk dealer found the gold and made millions.

We often fail because we stop short of success. When I looked at my life, I realized that I'd never really failed at anything. When I took a good hard look at my "failures" I realized that in every case, I had simply quit.

Have you taken the time to look at your failures in life? How's your track record when it comes to facing difficulty and disappointment? Have you developed the habit of quitting?

The Old Testament story of David and Goliath is familiar to just about everyone. We all know that the "little guy" defeats the "big giant" with just a sling and some faith. But what we often don't think about is God's army and what they experienced.

When we read the story we learn that the army got up every morning, prepared for battle, did their "battle cry," and then something went terribly wrong. The giant Goliath came out and challenged them to send out their champion.

It was at that point that every man's heart failed and fear overtook them. This process was repeated day after day for forty days. For forty days they hoped and prepared only to have to face failure again and again. No one had the courage to face Goliath until a young shepherd boy named David came along and said, "I'll fight him!"

I don't know how those soldiers felt for those forty days, but I know that I've had many times in my life when a giant problem seemed too hard to overcome, and my fear led to a decision to quit, a decision to fail.

But what can we do when faced with defeats and setbacks?

The first thing to do is to think about R. U. Darby who stopped three feet short of gold, and those soldiers who let fear cause them to fail for forty days. And then remember that we can't give up, there's too much to lose. After all, our dreams are at stake.

Reaching our dreams will require that we face our fears and overcome our failures. Success may be right around the corner and it will probably come in a way that we don't expect. Darby didn't know that all he needed was someone with mining experience and the soldiers didn't know that a young boy would kill the giant.

Hold on to your hope, continue to pursue your dreams, and know that the answer will come when you least expect it.

Prop Shaft: An integral Part of the Automobile Machinery

The automobile engine has evolved over time. Rapid advances in technology have meant that it is getting more and more sophisticated day by day. This has meant that all the ancillary machinery that is connected to the automobile engine has also seen improvements. The entire range of improvements is geared towards providing the users with maximum benefit.

In this article, we talk about the propeller shaft commonly known as the prop-shaft. The propeller shaft helps in connecting a propeller to the engine. In British automobile parlance the propeller shaft is also called the drive shaft. If, you go into the specifics, the prop shaft, in effect, connects the gearbox of the automobile with the rear differential. The propeller shafts used in contemporary automobiles are typically more rigid than their earlier counterparts. This enables them to deliver maximum power to the wheels from a transmission. Propeller shafts are generally used in pairs and short prop shaft are used to provide power to the wheels. This can be from a differential, transaxle, or a transmission.

In the case of rear-drive vehicles or ones that have a rear engine, the prop shafts that are used are longer. This enables the power to be sent through the length of the vehicle. Two forms of prop shafts are extensively used in the world of automobiles namely the Hotchkiss shaft that has two or more joints, and the torque tube that has a single universal joint. The prop shaft is used when the engine and axles are not together but are separate from each other. This scenario occurs in vehicles that come under the category of four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. In these cases it is the definitive prop shaft that transmits the engine generated drive force to the axles of the vehicle.

In terms of optimization, the best prop shafts are those that are bar-like and short. The prop shaft is likely to sag if the bar is long. The sagging further accentuates as a result of rotation. The affects of sagging are vibration and noise pollution. This, at times, happens to such an extent that the prop shaft breaks when a driver exceed the critical speed limit.

But do not be unduly worried. All propeller shafts are configured in a way such that they do not break when they are used with the service limits that are stipulated by manufacturers. Moreover, all prop shafts are designed to curtail any vibrations that can occur from varied causes.

If your prop shaft breaks or is damaged by the regular wear-and-tear, then there is an emerging prop shaft market that gives you a comprehensive list choices. You must go for those which designed specifically for your type of automobile and which come with maintenance and warranty. You should make sure that you dont make your decisions based on the cost factor alone. Good prop shaft dont come cheap. Specialist manufacturers are now coming out with new and improved prop shafts that are the best in terms of quality, functionality, and over all value.

Make an informed decision, when you purchase a prop shaft.

Most of South Africa has elevations of over 914m (3,000 ft) and at least 40% of the surface is at an elevation of over 1,220m (4,000 ft). Parts of Johannesburg are 1,829m (6,000 ft) above sea level. Resembling an inverted saucer, the land rises steadily from west to east to the Drakensberg Mountains, the tallest of which is Mont-aux-Sources at 3,300m (10,823 ft).

The coastal belt in the west and south varies from 3 to 30 miles in width, is between 152m (500ft) to 182m (600ft) above sea level, and is very fertile, producing citrus fruits and grapes, particularly in the Western Cape. North of the coastal belt stretch, the Little and the Great Karoo, which are bounded by mountains, lie higher than the coastal belt, and are semi-arid to arid, merging into sandy wastes that ultimately join the Kalahari Desert.

The high grass prairie, or veld, of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal is famous for its mineral deposits,. From Drakensberg, the land falls towards the Indian Ocean in the rolling hills and valleys of Natal, which are covered with rich vegetation and, near the coast, subtropical plants, including sugarcane.

South Africa lies almost wholly within the southern temperate zone, and its climate is more equable than that of corresponding northern latitudes because of its surrounding waters. Cape Town and the southernmost part of Western Cape has a Mediterranean-type climate and is warmer than some areas further north that are affected by the cold Benguela Current on the west coast of Southern Africa. The winter months are mild and changeable, this is also the time when most the rainfall occurs. The Durban and Kwa-Zulu-Natal coastline is affected by the warm Mozambique current and enjoys a sub-tropical climate, with plenty of sunshine throughout the year, but the summer months can become very hot and humid. Throughout the country, however, the mean annual temperature is just below 15.6C (60F). On the high veld there are sharp differences of temperature between day and night; but there is less daily fluctuation nearer the coast. Rainfall is unpredictable in large parts of the country, and prolonged droughts are a serious restriction on farming in such areas.

While the mean annual rainfall is 18.6 inches, nearly 30% of the country receives less than 10 inches and 65% receives less than 20 inches. Much of South Africa gets its rain in the summer months, but the western coastal belt is a winter rain area. Along the Cape south coast, rain falls during both seasons. Generally the winter months are between April and August with summer being from September to March.

How Nearly Finished Got Lucky

Lying next to Richard Branson is terrific. Theres a buzz. Everyone wants to touch you. Wow, people gasp, you and Richard Branson. Amazing. Who would have thought of the two of you together you from Cape Town and Mr B, the global entrepreneur.

Indeed. Before you get too excited, let me explain. I am talking about my little book, Nearly Finished a guide to home renovation (Double Storey, $16) which for a few weeks, lay on the shelf (see, I told you not to get excited) next to Mr. Bransons bestselling little book, called, Screw It, Let's Do It (Virgin Books, $5.80).

Our books nestled side-by-side at my local book shop in a section where they place the ten top selling titles of the week. The list is for that store only. Sure, it is not the national hit parade or The New York Times Best Selling list, but it was a huge rush for yours truly. To bask in the afterglow of Mr Bransons fame was lovely.

Nearly Finished is based on articles I was commissioned to write for the Cape Times on the renovation of our house. South African publishers, Double Storey approached me and invited me to develop the newspaper series into a book.

When Nearly Finished was released, we were on holiday. On our return, we found that the little bookie was at no 9 at the bookshop. Thrilling. It soon moved to number four. Mr B was at no 3. Major thrills. Armed with a skinny cappuccino, I sat in the coffee shop adjoining the book shop, monitoring the action and smoozing potential buyers: Hey, why are you not buying my book?! Ill even sign it for you.

A fascinating pattern emerged. People began picking up Mr Bransons Screw it, Lets Do It and then reached for Nearly Finished. Or the other way round. I was chuffed. I am still a virgin with this literary gig, so when I see someone buying my book, I cant control myself: Omigod youre buying my book, I squealed to a nice man. Well, since I am with the subject of screwing, I thought Id buy Nearly Finished as well. Arent they about the same thing?, he answered.

Hmm. Consider a review on Amazon for Screw it: Screw It, Let's Do It reveals the lessons that have helped him through his business and personal life, like believing it can be done and that, if others disagree with you, try and try again until you achieve your goal or that you must love what you do.

Exactly. In Nearly Finished, we reveal the lessons that helped us through the renovating process and our utter belief that it could be accomplished, even when others disagreed with us; when they said that it couldnt be done; we persevered. When they said that we would fail if we sub-contracted and worked without a project manager or fancy designer, we said, screw it - lets do it. Our philosophy is that anyone can build or renovate. Our mission: to demystify building. Get a handful of three inch screws and pay someone else to get on with your job. Love your home. Enjoy it.

With property values rocketing globally and living spaces shrinking we are after the same thing. As homeowners who live in Cape Town, New York, London or Shanghai, we want to make the most of our homes, maybe buff them up a little bit or a lot. Ultimately, we all want to finish.

Although Nearly Finished is a story about one familys experience of building in Cape Town (thats us) and is not meant to be an A-Z of building, it does contain universal reference points and tips about the building process; what can go wrong and what to look out for. It is full of lessons we can draw from wherever we are in the global village to help us take our homes from need some work to simply stunning

The Budget way to Modifying your Car

MORE with LESSThe cheapest way to get the most out of your car

Many car owners modify their cars to create that special car that is totally unique to them. Some has much to splash on their new or used car to upgrade the look or performance, some wish for the same thing but has limited budget. This guide is dedicated to those who want to create a special car on a budget and for those who do not wish to spend too much on their car as they have other priorities in life. With this guide, I want to show how to get the most out of your car with maximum impact with limited budget. This guide is based on the popular BMW 3 series E36 but it can be adapted to all makes of cars.

STEP 0! - Face Lift!

Before you go into any modifications, you may want to start to facelift your BMW to the latest specifications according to your car series. Check out what type of face lifts are available for your car You may consider white indicators, new grille, new badge etc.

STEP 1 - Colour-Code Bumpers

The first step to creating an attractive BMW is to colour-code your bumper/spoiler for cars that do not come with colour-coded bumpers as standard. Colour-coded bumpers make the car look fuller, lower and much more pleasing to the eye. There is nothing less attractive than a BMW with such attractive colours but has a grey underside (bumpers). Especially if you have a light colour car, you will find huge improvements to the look of your car just by colour-coding your bumpers. However, if you are thinking of changing your spoilers in the very near future, skip this step to save you the cost of painting. (many new cars post 2000 already come with colour coded bumpers as standard hence this step will not be necessary)

STEP 2 - Lowering springs

Lowering the car is the second step to any modification. Even a car without any body kit on can look mean and cool with colour-coded bumpers and a set of lowering springs. They will improve both the look of the car as well as the handling! You don't have to change the dampers or suspension kits if you are on a budget, springs will do the trick. But be careful not to go TOO low or your car will become a lawn mower!

STEP 3 - Exhaust System

Exhaust system is next on the list. It makes the rear end much more mean and sound the part too! especially with twin DTM-pipes. Those BMW cars with single tailpipe can upgrade to twin tailpipes which will certainly gain you credits. Those BMW that already has twin tailpipes may consider 2x twin tailpipes! A full exhaust system should also improve performance by about 5-10bhp. So you get style plus performance for your BMW!

STEP 4 - Alloy Wheels

Alloy wheels are certainly the most visual changes you will find on any car. It will change the whole look of your BMW. The only reason it is in step four is because there is no point having large alloys that sits high above the ground. Different types of wheels will create a different look. Personally, I think five-spokes alloys look best. It provides both better cooling for the brakes as well as showing off your brake discs (if you fit large ones). Some people judges the performance of your car by the size of your brake discs as you need them to stop your fast BMW car! Fitting larger alloys enable you to fit wider tyres for better grip. There are a large number of designs and offsets to choose from, so choose wisely! Dont go oversized! You want to keep your BMW as the ultimate driving machine not just a showing machine.

Step 5 - Body kits

When you reach this stage, you have spent quite a lot and you will not stop spending until you have created your ultimate car. There are many body kits to choose from (see Modified BMW gallery for more details). The first step could simply be to add a rear boot spoiler for the added special touch. Rear boot spoiler is the most visible body kit. If you want to go further, buy a full kit (front and rear spoilers, side skirts and rear wing). Although you could mix and match kits from different manufacturers, it is always advisable to go for the set as some manufacturers design their kit to compliment one another, air flow through the car will also have been considered in the design of the kit.

STEP 6 - ACCESSORIES + UNLIMITED

As you have carried out the five basic steps to modifying your BMW, you should by now have created a very unique BMW. However, you may want more and I can tell you that there are many more things you can do to your BMW and they are unlimited, from interior upgrades, sound system upgrades to engine upgrades and even body kit upgrades. Check out Extreme BMW modifications for extreme body kit in http://www.bobmodifiedbmw.com

However, I would do it in the order mentioned above, but you may have different views on that. People who like fast cars will certainly upgrade their engines and the interior and the sound department is usually ignored as they only add weight to the car and slow the car down. However, if you want comfort out of your BMW, then by all means upgrade your interior and sound system.

In conclusion, before you go about spending your hard earned cash to modifying your BMW car, plan well, set a budget and use the steps laid out here as your guide to modifying your BMW car.

Coping With Thailands Tightened Visa Regulations

It is the end of an era in Thailand. Political changes occur rapidly in SE Asia. Nowhere is that more evident than inside the Land of Smiles. In the wake of the John Karr / JonBenet Ramsey fiasco, Thailand has tightened restrictions on Tourism Visas and stymied the lives of tens of thousands of travelers. Officials claim the two are not connected.

For many years now, backpackers have flocked to Thailand. Its tropical climate, gentle citizens, inviting beaches and ease of travel beckon youthful exuberance. Over time, many of us have matured to suitcases and still less-stylish travelers followed suit.

During these Golden Years of Thai travel visitors form 39 countries could enter the Kingdom of Thailand for thirty days without obtaining a visa before their arrival. Those staying on longer would simply make a border run, cross out of the country and return, often within minutes. Whish! Stamp! Boom! They had another thirty days.

Currently details of the new regulations are as clear as mud in an unlit cave. It appears starting October 1, 2006, travelers such as myself will be able to make a maximum of two border runs. We receive thirty days on arrival. Then, we receive thirty days each for the two reentries. After that we may not enter Thailand again for ninety days. In other words, after ninety days in, we must leave for ninety days. Whish! Stamp! Stamp! Out!

The tourism industry will suffer! From taxi drivers and guest houses, to massage schools and laundry services, the impact will be felt. I imagine a Tuk Tuk driver will look up this January and think, Hey, whered everybody go? I like to believe the cumulative economic loss will be more than the Kingdom fathoms and policies will loosen again over time. I also still hang a Christmas stocking up for myself.

Alongside Thais, how are long-term travelers being affected by the changes? If you think the inconvenience to individuals is negligible, consider the following. Here are some examples.

Donald Wood UK

My sister and her family were to spend February in Thailand with me. They have canceled their trip. Why? Because, Ill be out for ninety days by then.

Kelly Laidlaw USA

I paid for a one month TEFL Course and two months volunteer teacher training on Samui next year. Thats three months total. I lose days from each 30 day allotment, because I have to do my visa border runs on weekend (to not miss class). This is what Im left with. I leap into Thailand the day before class starts and sprint for Samui. Then, I fly out the day after I finish teaching/graduate. Perhaps a prospective school can interview me in the Tuk Tuk on the way to the airport.

Claude DeVosjoli France

I had many plans for my six months sure to travel, but more. Im always doing something. Mahout training, an expansive meditation experience, maybe I learn to cook Thai. And, theres trekking, Muay Thai courses Theres so much to do here. Now I can do only half. Half lose my francs. Its so hard to choose.

Barry Anderson Australia

Funny thing is Burma (a.k.a. Myanmar) lost business because of the Thai regs. I wanted to hop over there bouts for a week mid-November. Cant now. That would use up one of my precious two visa runs early. Dont wanna torch thirteen days I figure.

Kathy Taylor Canada

I sold my home to come to SE Asia for a couple years. The thinking was I would maintain a small apartment in Chiang Mai, take some classes, travel around a bit and have a place to nest and write in between. Now when I travel to other countries it will go lock, stock and barrel, along with my tourism dollars for many months.

Alan McLawrie UK

Im currently taking classes to learn to speak Thai. Ill miss the third level now. Of course, Ill be off in Vietnam not able to practice what I just learned anyway. Also, I volunteer at a dog rescue and will miss the pups. Im financially independent, yet too young to meet the 50 year old requirement for a Retirement Visa here. Officials actually said this new law will stop bad people and not hurt good people. Well, if financially successful, charitable volunteers who study their culture are bad guys, send me to the front of the line.

Anita Kroll USA

This change is a bit of a pickle for me. I have a three month course this spring. So, in December when my 90 is up, I have to leave Thailand for almost four months, not three. Ill need the whole next lot of ninety days to cover my class time. The course starts in late April and Im out in December. I wish there had been more notice before the government changed things, though in retrospect I did not have to pay in advance.

As you see there are dozens of ways Thailands new policies will cause little inconveniences. But, how little are they? You see, I am Anita. I am Alan. I am Kathy, Barry, Kelly, Donald and even Claude DeVosjoli. All these issues occurred for just one peaceful gal who simply loves Thailand. What else do these issues have in common? Thats easy. They take money away (Whish!) from the Kingdom of Thailand and its citizens.
